There is inspiration that often finds me when I am not looking. I found this today as I was finding solace after Sacrament Meeting at church. My Olivia does not feel well and my first reaction is to contact her father and ask of his opinion and knowledge. In my quest to contact him I had to make a choice to inform him but not engage him in this daily decision. I believe I will always struggle with this as he left with errant ways. So my phone call was simple "Olivia is sick and has been for several days. I will probably take her to the E.R. if she still has a bad sinus headache this evening". This was my message that I left on his voice mail as he chooses to not engage in the lives of his children. So I sit next to Olivia we are on the computer reading and finding scripture to soothe my soul and to share together. We found a nice calming passage from The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost (1874-1963). We then went to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUaQgRiJukA and found it in a short video. The wonderful pictures of the fall season reminds us to savor the blessings and enjoy the many colors that are before our eyes. The urge to contact him has now surpassed. He missed another wonderful opportunity to be a part of our children's life, but that was his choice.mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-42873751440384186082013-02-22T13:03:00.001-08:002013-02-22T13:03:52.015-08:00Long time... New beginnings...Well... It has been a long time since I made a post. My life has changed dramatically. I am no longer married to the father of my two daughters. Long horrendous drawn out story. Basically everything I wanted to believe as truth was a lie. Enough with that. I am learning to carry on. I am slowly but surely carrying on and moving in a healthy and wonderful life. I am finally back in college. It happened about 4 years earlier than I expected. None the less, welcome to my life as a college student with two teenage daughters in high school and single mom. Oh yeah, and I work as an elementary art instructor. Whew!
Life is starting to look up. College is going well. I made the Dean's list at Ashford University. That was a feat in itself. Juggling everything at times has looked a lot like a Tasmanian devil on the loose. But I have managed to do that all by myself as the girls father doesn't live in the state and when he visits it is only for a day or two at most. He has a life and she keeps him busy.
Art is amazing at school. I took a course through www.deepspacesparkle.com to help organize many years of chaos. Thanks Patty Palmer! Your inspiration was a hit and the kids are having a blast. All 650+ of those little cuties. The teachers have had a new hope given to them in the introduction of new art projects to the students. Hopefully the school system will learn to recognize the art process as a necessary subject and can tie into curriculum as a reinforcement to the required subjects.
Krystan is growing bigger all the time. I mean taller. Almost taller than I am and I am trying to catch up with her. Just keep stretching I tell myself this all the time. It has to work, RIGHT! She is taking a boat load of AP and Honors classes at Choctaw and loves hanging out with her friends. She will be 17 this year. WOW! She loves culinary and says that I can teach her classes because her teacher at school is retiring. She believes that culinary will be her life. I hope she loves it as much as I do.
Olivia is 14 going on 40. She knows it all and constantly reminds me of how I need to chill! I am so very proud of her. She marched with the band at Choctaw this year. Go Stylemarchers! She now plays 3 instruments fluently. Oboe, Flute, and Piano. Yes, I was a crazy person and bought her an open-hole concert flute this year. I told her she has to keep playing it until her children are born and she has repaid her dues to me for this.
We purchased three Kayaks this past summer to keep us on the water here in Florida. We love to snorkel and swim and beach comb. Two of the kayaks are one person sit on top sea kayaks. The other one is a Hobie that fits 3 small teenagers or two adults. It is great when you want to get in and out of the water but is a slow beast when you want to move fluently through the water. If you want an upper body workout this one is for you. Oh and I can stand and paddle it around.
In January the, Ruby Bell, RV made it's way from Alabama to Florida. We have taken it on two weekend trips. We are having a blast in it. Last July, the nieces and nephews made it to Florida where we camped at the Ft. Benning MWR post in Destin, FL. A week of fun times and memories that cannot be erased. They have asked where we are going this year? I do not know yet. Hey 'Livi how is it gonna work with band camp and girls camp, etc. We will see!
I have slowly but surely begun the battle to set up my sewing studio in the 4th bedroom off the Florida room. I need to start my creative side back up. I miss all of it. It was so much fun and I had a blast. The girls keep asking and all I can say is, SOON.
Well maybe my creative kick will kick back in and all of my blogs will eventually meander into one big media hub. We will see! Until later...

Partially because my right leg is in a walking boot. So getting on or off a bike is a potentially hazardous feat. I was able to walk about 2 miles on Saturday and the weather was amazing. I love the fall and it is a time that I am more easily motivated. So I am going to lose the weight I have gained. I learned about 10 years ago how to eat everything you want and still lose weight. The whole answer to this is eat every two hours. Learn to read a label,choose whole foods and cut out the processed convenience foods. Enough is enough... If you would like to follow along or join in; you can post your comments each day of the next month as I begin to lose all this weight.

Breakfast is the most important meal! See you in the morning.mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-9224770611368549912010-06-23T08:35:00.001-07:002010-06-23T08:40:09.431-07:00more reception food pictures<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfGSaalaUVn-tAIN1Axo-TiFnA7lCMxxeS1I_v6gmYQ5MMfoJvXNsGoCA3U-YcEJBPA0W-4A-feo8Ka3VgAUFXJ4mbal8bhPcEoCEjgj6ERuWOOdmhiNeI8psO-1PTbtpqfoSO4xnCgxUF/s320/100_1138.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485994167149753794" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOq9w0Grj8PdA06znnbT5O7cf_M20TViSP2Xlw_X0-R-rr-I2MWHfwm2wPoCi8wjjnHu99Of8sRV4868VtgZMvc7LGmP63werH8Zy3efB5-Brcr7zOL_Xa-WjW-YzWuagpRokWYSDehna/s320/100_1137.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485994166985937298" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_jBsFzEppkO9xcx2XXcSdNHrnsOA0Lq0e18uY6XjnMQtzcia_yQ-646BSjkTJYUWdiTsE5s2CJhpZgnCGqXF8xlE4Jf41rQCc6OXeCVqDZhgs5XSRCa2Hg0TmvvKNY_hoWAFATaRPWL-T/s320/100_1136.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485994156278404738" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZYOIMf6YjPR9PexmVZYHbHK4C-sSsIp2DCLxOxcD5UYNvfc1OEHvVdxFcb02SATMc47EkQQd9J7nfTcObCqNuYp2mro7w8pxev19dvGymZgA0n94XJ5R4UXAaRo72Pz8v2C-rHEzgJ6oX/s320/100_1135.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485994148626769698" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw_GPffn6ywA-2s3WX3UaWN9nCsyncJbb1-zYLgTDFtobabZTKqD-iDIswAIVZPCLafp2xPfehl2vDi5JwiWpBMfIwk46VrfqdKyaHzTDxvSlpKOV6LYY0ZH9rFUNf0mHClE60jTI_VLyX/s320/100_1134.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5485994137775897410" />
the last of the food buffet pictures. You are the sisters that are blessed in the Lord's work. Billie Robinson and Grant Adams were married. I gave them a simple but really great buffet of fresh foods. They are really great and I love and respect them so much. Best of luck and we love you guys.mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-22724845450442589232010-06-02T07:48:00.000-07:002010-06-02T07:58:44.587-07:00Why it is?<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhHYnML9tMSYGw9lQBbG-YhKA76alAPnSU9kDg-MQFDcyU6bxn8NPuuriWQgPYceWx4bnNesCOuUV_zZMMVVCgOlE7Q3KNUAgoTmBuY61w-5Wl9UmBOlN3jpvZbK7iuth8YkqeTOBkPMtj/s320/100_1229.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5478188835822956418" />
Why is it that I am finally in a size 5 Juniors pants and I still feel like I am a whale. They are still the best I have ever eaten. Try not to over indulge. It is hard to only eat one...

Tres Leches Coconut Macaroons
Recipe yields 24 large
Ingredients:
4 14-ounce bags sweetened coconut flakes
2 14 ounce cans sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 Tablespoon vanilla
1 to 2 packages high quality dark chocolate (I used Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate)
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cover cookie sheets with parchment paper. Mix half of the recipe together at a time by placing a bag and a half of coconut in a mixer bowl, along with one half of the remaining ingredients. Mix slowly with a paddle attachment. Once all of the ingredients are well blended, add the remaining half bag of coconut. Mix in and empty the bowl into a very large bowl. Mix the other half of the ingredients in the same way. Add it to the already mixed portion. Use the ice cream scoop and lightly pack the ingredients together so that the macaroon holds together nicely during baking. Place onto the cookie sheets and bake. I was able to place two sheets into my oven on different shelves, so I changed their position halfway through baking to keep the browning even. The original recipe says to bake for a total of 10-12 minutes, but I found I needed longer. I baked for 10 minutes, then moved my pans, and set the timer again for 10 more minutes. You will know when they are done when the bottoms are nicely browned and the tops are lightly toasted. Remove them from the pans to cool on a rack. Once they are completely cooled, they can be dipped in chocolate.

Melt the chocolate in a medium bowl in the microwave, stirring after each minute until just melted. Dip the cooled macaroons halfway into the chocolate, then place back onto baking sheets covered with parchment and set in the refrigerator or freezer until the chocolate is set.mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-44337095141534785822010-05-13T18:16:00.000-07:002010-05-13T18:24:22.367-07:00Fluffy PancakesI love pancakes. I like to roll them around sausage and eat with my hands. I love pancakes! This is a recipe that a friend gave me. They are some of the best I have ever eaten.

3 cups flour
2 tablespoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 eggs
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup oil
2 1/4 cups milk, divided
Mix the first 3 ingredients together in a bowl with a whisk. Set aside. Stir together the eggs, syrup, oil and 1 cup milk. Add the dry ingredients. Stir together. Add the remaining 1 1/4 cups of milk. Pour the batter by 1/2 cup measurements on a hot griddle. Turn pancakes when golden brown. Serve wrapped around a sausage link or with butter and syrup. Thanks Kay! I finally decided on Green and Black and White. I wanted a spring green with a pop of black. I needed 21 stips of each printed material @ 2 1/2-inches wide. So it took me about 1 1/2 hours to finish the skirt. I will now have to sew one for each of my two daughters, I am sure! Two more patterns to accomplish for new Sunday skirts for me. I will post photos by the end of the day. Hope this is inspiring enough that you will want to sew one also. Til Later!mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-3709778697879334992010-05-13T13:06:00.000-07:002010-05-13T13:09:50.061-07:00Worst Blogger EverI always have good intentions but never seem to have the time to blog. I am setting a new goal to blog once a week. I love to cook and sew and volunteer but the volunteer part has taken a large part of each day. I am vowing to take care of me and I will make time for my hobbies that I enjoy.mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-22804981608718341202010-04-06T11:49:00.000-07:002010-04-06T12:29:58.870-07:00A Few of My Favorite Outdoor Things...This past week of spring has made bme really appreciate the nice warm weather and the blooming of the flowers and trees. Here at home the outside of our house really hasn't been touched since we have lived here. So we have begun our ambitous family spring project. FRONT YARD CLEAN UP!!!
We have dug up the grass from the yard near the carport all the way to the street. Oh my! We have planted 8 yellow knockout roses and about 20 pots of lariope in hopes of not cutting two swipes of grass with the lawnmower. The grass didn't really grow under the tree anyway. In the front of the house on the right side, we cut down and I dug out the 4 bushes that were way overgrown an hadn't done anything for the front of the home. We have planted 3 red knock-out roses and 4 african daisy bushes. OK! My arms are sore, my wrist is in a splint, my hips feel like they are on fire. If I drop something, it will just have to stay there.
Why is it that landscaping hurts a lot more than gardening.

My garden is growing so fast. I have harvested about 10 gallons of lettuce. Remind me next year that 36 various lettuce plants feed armies. We love it though. Salads are so flavorful and the different textures of the greens are wonderful. The lettuce varieties are: iceburg (not at all like the nasty stuff from the grocery store), mustard, Romaine, and Buttercrunch. Most of the leaves are the size of both of my hands side-by-side. The iceberg is the size of a dinner plate. There are sugar peas and zucchini and yellow squash and cucumbers and pumpkins and corn and Pineapple Sage and Cilantro and Rosemary, Flat Leaf Parsley, Chives, Bee Balm, Common Sage, Stevia, Oregano, Basil, and Egyptian Basil.

Until later...mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-72882551878357167332010-02-04T15:54:00.000-08:002010-02-04T16:29:05.437-08:00One of my favorite sitesI love the website: www.youcanmakethis.com. There are so many talented creative designers of projects that totally inspire me. They are currently starting "The DIY Dish". I just signed up on their new website.
www.thediydish.commtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-80158787733763182802009-08-08T13:24:00.000-07:002009-08-08T13:38:14.788-07:00Every Heard of a Grits Trifle?For some of us in the south, grits is a staple. There are so many ways people eat grits. With sugar, cheese, garlic, etc. You have to have butter and lots of it.

After a long (2-week) vacation we needed dinner and most of the ingredients needed to come from the garden or pantry or freezer since we hadn't hit the market yet. So what better way to feed a family than to make breakfast for supper. First make a pot of grits but use milk in place of the water. Also you must use salt. Southerners know why...Just trust us!

Now think of all your favorite toppings you love, on chili or tacos or salad or you put on your grits, and pile them on in layers.

We used:
Fried eggs, that were chopped
Grated Pepper Jack cheese or other favorite cheese, I also loved smoked gouda.
Bacon or Sausage, cooked and crumbled
Chopped tomatoes
Sour Cream
Sliced scallions
Pulled Pork is yummy, had some frozen since 4th of july!

I don't usually eat a whole bowl full, cereal-sized bowl, but I did. Oh my. This is serious grit-eatin' time. ENJOY!mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-65567485045299092072008-06-10T13:48:00.000-07:002008-06-10T14:00:13.836-07:00Yes, I'm still here!It's been a while since I last blogged. It has been a whirlwind of; end of school year, family visiting, and husband finishing internship, and my new chuch calling. Whewwww...

Krystan finished 5th grade. She will be attending Meigs Middle School here in Florida next school year. She is glad the summer is here. She will be attending two Girls Camp sessions. 1st in Alabama with Aunt Polly and the 2nd here with the rest of the young women here in Florida.

Olivia finished 4th grade and can't wait for 5th grade field trips next year. The 5th grade goes on several for their aeronautical studies for the year. I hope she knows how much studying that she is going to have to do.

We have had family in town that past several weeks and will have more in the next few. It's nice being close to family again but will probably wear off by end of the summer.

And I was issued a calling as the new Relief Society president here in Ft Walton Beach, FL. I have mixed feeling about this. Secretary was nice! I have my work cut out for me. There are lots of missing links here. There was no current food storage program to motivate members before I was asked to teach on the 5th Sunday, back in December. There are about 3-7 people that attend enrichment activities at a time. Yes, you heard me and yes, we are a ward. And we are a transcient ward with all the EOD and other military families. Hopefully, getting back to the basics in the handbook will help with some of the issues. I have put my total faith in God that he will lead me and my counselors in the direction that the sisters need most. At least I didn't have one comment on Sunday about my "Deer in the Headlight" look.mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4775449150705378562.post-76221031373366647932008-04-10T18:43:00.001-07:002008-04-10T18:43:04.772-07:00April 10, 2008
Leaves and Leaves oh my! Today was supposed to be a day to unload everything out of the sewing room but…. I was called to go to the school and help the 4th grade students finish their art-in-action project. Brayers and black transfer medium and pastels and newspapers… It was so much fun!

I did that for about an hour and a half and then went to pick up a special type of milk for my lactose sensitive daughter. I love driving to Niceville. It is so quiet compared to Eglin and Beal Parkway. I also had to pick up some chips for the weekend. On the way home, I stopped by a very off-limits restaurant but sooo good "Jim n Nicks". If you want southern-style BBQ this is the local place that does it right. But today I had a southern burger and fries and a large Coke. And it has spoken back like a sassy child.

We are having the missionaries and about 16 other people + us 4 for dinner Saturday night. Hopefully the rain will hold off. I would like to stage the basketball court with tables and chairs instead of having everyone in the house. We cut the grass this evening and I weeded the flower beds. Now if the dollar weed were real dollars; I could pay to have it pulled by someone else's hands.

The front yard is starting to look like a yard again. It was half dead after last year's drought. So it was cleaned and thatched and we are reseeding it. I have planted knockout roses and yellow daisy bush plants in the front oval bed. And there is a sweet jasmine to creep up the form between the windows. I paid one of my daughter's friends to help them clean up all the leaves and acorns from the live oak in the front yard. Two hours later and 15+ bags of mulch and leaves and acorns. At first I said $5.00 each. Then I felt bad when I saw the amount of stuff they had cleaned up. So I ordered barbeque chicken pizza for them and they each had a cookie dough ice cream cone. They were having so much fun. And I don't believe in slave or child labor, at least not where the neighbors can witness. HaaHaa (My parents never paid me to do the lawn. And my price is way too high.) So, I also offered to take them to see Nim's Island again after piano lessons on Saturday.

It's 8:39 and I need a shower and some ice cream "for me" before bed. Tomorrow back to the same old diet and maybe my muscles will let me get out of bed in the morning. Until then…
mtalley2txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02500118468895611593noreply@blogger.com0
